Longtime journalist. Fan of books, shelter dogs, beautiful hikes that don't hurt my knees, hotels with cozy robes, kindness. Midwest is best.
@robertchannick.bsky.social talked with Fire owner Joe Mansueto about his hopes for soccer in Chicago, and why he thinks teams should foot the bill for new stadiums, not taxpayers.

Kudos to the Sun-Times for thoroughly reviewing this special section and reporting what was fabricated.
A review by the Sun-Times newsroom of the 64-page special section, "Heat Index: Your Guide to Summer," found errors extended far beyond the mostly fake summer reading list, with more misinformation plaguing other articles in the edition.

Sad news. @fluffbucket.bsky.social, this was a convenient hangout for us back in our Printers Row days.

I've had many great encounters with national park rangers and educators. People who took the time to talk to me about sea otters on the California coast and beautiful birds in Acadia National Park and helped me when I was horribly lost in the Rockies and was feeling a bit panicky.

Frigid days like this always remind me of my friend from San Diego who was moving to Chicago and said, "So, I can just wear socks with my Birkenstocks and be fine, right?" Oh, my sweet summer child.

Nuns get stuff done.
The nuns met in the 1960s and were united in their advocacy for social justice. They have won awards, been arrested, been told no and successfully pushed for legislative reform. Now in their 90s, they have no plans of slowing down. A classic @nellsalzman.bsky.social story. Gift link here.
In their 90s, Sisters of Mercy have spent their lives fighting for immigrant justice. And they’re not stopping now.
Sister JoAnn Persch and Sister Pat Murphy have devoted their lives advocating for local and federal immigration legislation to fix a broken system.

When I moved to Chicago about 25 years ago, the Reader was a great resource for learning about the city and its arts and culture. I hope the paper makes it.

Glad to hear this taproom is reopening. Sounds like a great partnership.
Steep Ravine Brewing, the Highland Park craft brewer that shed its Ravinia Brewing name after a legal trademark battle with Ravinia Festival, is reopening its Logan Square taproom next month with a new partner — Chicago-based Moor’s Brewing.
With ‘Chopped’ chef on tap, Steep Ravine partners with Bronzeville-based brewery to relaunch Logan Square taproom

I vividly remember when the CueCat was unveiled in the newsroom where I was working at the time. So much bewilderment and confusion.
