Yeah I think this gets right at it. Subjugation, domination, loathing… these are the ends, not merely the means.
Bob Altemeyer posits that their idea of enjoyment is the hatred and social repression itself. They're not trying to oppress people to eventually arrive to their ideal world, they're creating the ideal world they want by oppressing people, the oppression is what they enjoy.
