In the 2025 Budget, Reeves cut out "luxury car brands" on the Motability scheme.

It saves 0.08% of the welfare budget, or 0.02% of the total budget.

They're also rented by sacrificing most if not all your PIP benefit.

It's nothing to do with saving money. It's the ideological war on the disabled.
Right, I think I'll post on Substack again in the next few days, there's only so much of staring at CSS I can do before my sanity goes.

Gutenberg in Wordpress is a fantastic idea, except for all the times when it doesn't work and you end up spending a lot of time trying to bodge it to make it work.

This is how The Sun has reported on the 2025 budget. It's deeply upsetting.

There's several cuts included in the budget, while 30% of children grow up in poverty, and 33% claim in-work, but Murdoch doesn't care about any of that.

He only cares about how much profit he can get from human suffering.

As of 28 January, we know that the DWP incurred £60m in staffing costs in its department to defend their flawed decisions.

It's a vast underestimate. This doesn't include the costs to HMCTS as well the wider costs to society and the NHS.

I'll run the numbers soon and demonstrate the full picture.
DWP blew tens of millions in taxpayer cash on fighting disability benefit claims
The latest figures revealed by Big Issue mean that the DWP has spent more than £400m on fighting disability benefit appeals since 2013.

I'm genuinely curious. Which bit of Boris' PPE did I buy with taxes I paid while working on minimum wage?

I'm also very curious how much of the welfare budget is being spent by the UK government, to deny welfare benefits.

There will be more FOIAs coming to the Department of Work & Pensions soon.

Got a phone call from Maximus, saying that my Work Capability Assessment is now being passed to the DWP, as a result of my GP's letter.

Of course, I was never told where in the DWP it's going, how that relates to anywhere in the process, or how long it'll take.

This is the seventh circle of hell.

This concludes my opinions on Budget Day 2025 so far.

ℹ️ One of the issues I face as a journalist, is due to the way Substack operates, as it doesn't really allow for smaller articles about these events.

🌈 I'm aiming for a fantastic reading experience on QLR. It's about a week away. I'm excited.

The 30-year Energy Company Obligation scheme was canned by removing a £150pa levy on bills, and cutting funding for green homes by 25%.

These cuts are morally indefensible.

Knocking down three pence off a kilowatt by insulating & fixing up less houses show Reeves is shooting herself in the foot.
November 26, 2025 at 7:44 PM
Amongst the taxes rises, I'm actually frustrated by the canned lattes taxes.

This is edging towards crossing the line of pricing out people in poverty out of treats & it isn't progressive.

The solution isn't to make things more expensive, but to actually address the vast food deserts in the UK.
News - Shopping data reveals ‘food desert’ hotspots in London, suggesting where nutritional needs are not be being met - University of Nottingham
New research has used purchasing data to map areas of London where residents may be suffering from a nutritionally inadequate diet, pinpointing where there are ‘food deserts.

The income tax allowance is £12,570.

This should be closer to £15,000. Give the most in need £24.30 a month extra after NI, and drop the upper eligibility threshold from £100k to £80k.

An annual salary below £15k is objectively in-work poverty. This would make a big difference to people's lives.
November 26, 2025 at 7:11 PM
The choice to continue the freeze on tax thresholds means Rachel Reeves has actively decided to continue penalising working people in poverty.

An increase in income tax would have been proportionate & fair. The freeze has been used by both Tory and Labour governments to increase taxes by stealth.
November 26, 2025 at 6:59 PM
Regarding to Budget Day 2025, I believe Rachel Reeves has taken some reasonable decisions, however they do not go far enough.

The high-value homes Council Tax premium is a dismal compromise, as this does not begin to reform the nightmare that is Council Tax.

A Land Value Tax is the only solution.
November 26, 2025 at 6:55 PM
Well this is interesting.

I'm currently working on the website but have noticed the DWP has refused to answer my question.

This is a cop-out answer as the DWP has escaped accountability here, as who knows when these statistics will get released.

I'll repeat my question to the letter of the law.

I am very close to finishing the Queer Love Riot website, and I am looking at exploring local history, and would love to go into the archives, and talk to more local people about all the things that have happened in Wythenshawe.

Here's a sneak peak at what the website looks like now. Not much left!
November 23, 2025 at 3:46 PM
While I may be more ill than I was a year ago, and things are incredibly tough at times I do feel I have a sense of belonging in the local community.

Wythenshawe is a place where individuals operate on the base assumption of common sense (minus the JCP) and try to fight for what's right for people.
November 23, 2025 at 3:43 PM
🗓️ It's now been one year since I've stepped foot in Wythenshawe. Yay!

I fled a very cold rented flat in Stockport. My friend @ixcaliber.bsky.social could see through my landlady's bullshit and gave me a place to live.

Wythenshawe will be always a place that's home in my heart. I feel welcome here.

And the reason why I so affected by this stupid far-right sticker?

I was literally trying to get a bus home, in an unfamiliar area. So basically, this was directly aimed at anyone not immediately from the area, and placed for maximum visibility.

This is the straight up definition of a hate crime.
November 22, 2025 at 4:32 AM
I want to make it absolutely clear.

From now on, If I notice any fascist prick intimidating, or harassing a migrant, I will be making sure that they end up behind bars.

As a migrant, I have experienced decades of xenophobia. Enough is enough. Time for the laws to be actually fucking enforced.
November 22, 2025 at 3:49 AM
⚠️ This is a Public Service Announcement

If you ever see something like this out on the streets please remove it if it safe and practical to do so.

This sticker was placed to threaten the local migrant community in Preston. I am emotionally impacted by this shit.

Hate only serves to intimidate.

Featuring coverage of an AI talk by Tom Stables, a digital marketing lecturer from UCLan, we explore the state of AI technologies, as well where I will and won't use AI technologies.

It's a controversial topic so feel free to suggest anything we've missed out!
The AI Ethics Dilemma in Creativity, Technology and Disability
TL;DR: The problems with artificial intelligence come from its novelty, and it will with time, as with all new technology, be accepted and used in ways that make sense after the craze dies down.

There's a whole PC v Mac debate where people have die-hard opinions, but it's not like Apple computers are expensive for no reason.

You can get much of the functionality on Windows and Linux, but as a chronic pain sufferer, I strongly recommend Apple products, because they're designed for humans.
November 20, 2025 at 1:16 AM
I am now using a MacBook, and I have to say that Mac OS has come leaps and bounds since I last properly had to use a Mac ten years ago.

As a Linux and Windows user, it is quite a learning curve but I am surprised at the insane effort that Apple has gone through to make using computers accessible.

I really want to support Mozilla and the open web. But @mozilla.org, you make it so incredibly difficult to do so when I am getting AI forcibly pushed on me by Firefox.

I know that I can disable this in the sidebar, but for fuck's sake, Mozilla should know better than forcing AI down our throats.

I'm feeling slightly better after taking a few days to rest and to look after my health for a while.

I've got a new laptop now and it looks like someone may be helping me get a wheelchair which I really, really appreciate.

I'd rather report from a wheelchair than let the bloody far-right win. 🌈

Shabana Mahmood's asylum seeker policy is vile & patently ignores human rights.

It's now safe to say Labour is a right-wing party with far-right leadership. Zero difference from the Tories.

We should cut Mahmood's MP salary to £9.95 a week. The savings can go towards people in desperate need.
