I’m sorry to say I fear that Sesame signed its own death certificate when it met HBO. These streaming services can’t grasp the concept of a gift, a mission, a core value. A commitment to children. Selflessness.

Now the magic of Sesame is $15 a month. In a world increasingly paywalled, the core gift of Sesame comes with a price tag now. These kids can’t access it any more. Sesame has lost the very bridge they created for the literacy gap because it had to have more MONEY.

The whole point of Sesame is that kids could access it for FREE. Disenfranchised and disadvantaged kiddos would go home after school and catch up where they were being left behind with the help of Elmo and friends. And parents didn’t have to pay a dime.
