When your party suffers in big part because after a decade in power almost no-one can tell what you truly stand for, I'm not sure moving to the centre (status quo) is the deft electoral move Chretien thinks it is.

What’s convenient when you put your besties in cabinet is that they tend to sincerely back you to the bitter end, even when realistically and pragmatically they probably shouldn’t. Miller and LeBlanc are not going to be the ones to push him out.
