Aspiring anthropologist studying in Taiwan who always stands up for what is right. I care about immigration and queer life in the American South. I'm also a photographer and something of a journalist.

It's also important to note that this Judge retired to senior status in 2013 so his replacement was appointed by Obama more than 10 years ago. His resignation is not creating an opening on the court.

I tend to push myself too hard so I can make the most of my time, especially when I go to places that aren't Taipei. I went to Kaohsiung/高雄 for a day and a half this week and did way too much so I've been reading the last day and a half since I got back.

Honestly the worst thing for me about going on my short trips around Taiwan is how much it takes out of me. I'll walk 40-50k steps in 2-3 days and then need to take an entire day to recover from it. It's annoying.

This is fucking hilarious.

I'm here doing an MA in anthropology. Let me know if you ever end up here and I'll share recs.

Yup. I'm trying to be really intentional while I'm in Taiwan and getting out of my city to explore the rest of the island. I'll be here for a couple years and will likely never have the freedom to explore this country after this period ever again.

It's funny how we never do the things in our backyard. I still regret not visiting the Kluge-Ruhe while I was living in Charlottesville.

Being a full-time federal judge. One could compare senior status to emeritus status for a professor. In this case, the Judge was already hearing an extremely limited caseload and was hanging out to help out when necessary.

He was already hearing very few cases to begin with and Trump does not get an appointment with this resignation. bsky.app/profile/did:...

All good, our discourse is imperfect, particularly when limited to 300 characters.

The comment wasn't directed at you specifically, it was directed in a meta-sense at the *volume* of posts making the same assumption.

And yes, I agree that this Atlantic editor made multiple poor decisions by not including that specific information in the screenshot or including a gift link.

The volume of reactionary posts making assuming Trump gets an appointment out of this resignation.
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
He retired to senior status and had his replacement appointed in 2013. This does not create an opening on the court.
November 9, 2025 at 5:19 PM
It's included in the article but I made sure to highlight it in the skeet given a lot of the reactionary posts I'm seeing on here.
November 9, 2025 at 5:18 PM
Yeah, it's really obnoxious.
November 9, 2025 at 5:17 PM
Having literally been in those protests that is probably the wildest take I've heard yet.
