My pothos lives directly next to the heat vents of my microwave oven and is still alive 3 years in so I think you should be fine 😂

Blog UI update ✨
I was getting a little bored of my homepage, so I added in little preview images to the left of each post. I've also added links to my book reviews and photos on the home page.

Also did a quick day trip to Zurich. The public transport system is pretty amazing, dare I say better than Japan? Although I'm a little in shock at the food prices in comparison 😅

I'm currently in Switzerland 🇨🇭 We spent the first couple of days in Lucerne. Got a bit unlucky with the weather on some days, but still managed to squeeze some hikes in which I'm planning to blog about when I get back!

My newsletter is pretty stagnant in terms of subscribers, but interestingly my Instagram seems to be getting a small trickle.. so I'm thinking maybe I should lean into that a bit more, but put them on the blog too!

Procrastinating on writing by doing UI updates to my blog - added a new breadcrumbs component that pops in as you scroll down the page. I feel like my blog is a little confusing since it has so many sections, so I'm hoping this makes it a bit more clear which section each post is in

Also what's cool about Mt Futsuzuka is there's a literal car just abandoned on the site of Mt Fuji you can check out. Writing up the blog post for it now so stay tuned 🫡

From my recent hike to Mt Futatsuzuka (a little mountain half-way up the side of Mt Fuji), and my first time with a Fujifilm camera! Still trying to figure out what to do with all the photos, the file sizes are so big. Send help 😂

I have a lot of images, so I suppose that might play into it? Also the Cloudflare chart (900k/month) is ridiculously high in comparison to my regular Umami analytics (16k/month), I suppose it's mostly bots/crawlers or something?

Seeing growth on my blog is nice, but I'm also watching the bandwidth usage go up like 👀
Luckily I'm still only using 50% of Netlify's free tier, but I wonder what's a normal amount of bandwidth for a site to use?
(I also use Cloudflare CDN which is caching a fair bit too).

It only got a couple of upvotes so it's not much, but I'm surprised to see it's still getting views 4 days in. I don't really read HN beyond the first 2 pages but I guess some users go really deep? 🤔

It only got a couple of upvotes so it's not much, but I'm surprised to see it's still getting views 4 days in. I don't really read HN beyond the first 2 pages but I guess some users go really deep? 🤔
What's interesting about this post is that it originally started as a note on my now page (www.emgoto.com/now/). It was a fairly rough set of notes that I had been regularly adding to, and then I noticed that it was starting to get hits from Google 👀 which prompted me to turn it into a proper post.

Similarly, I climbed Mt Shibutsu in November last year, and got the opposite view of the marsh out towards Mt Hiuchigatake. It's interesting to see the difference in colours between seasons!

Went snowboarding at Fujimi Panorama Resort in Nagano yesterday - with the clear weather you get a view of the Yatsugatake mountains stretching out before you, and Mt Fuji peeking out on your right as well!
The staff had built a snow cat bus as well which was really cute 😆

Got to see Linkin Park tonight! I didn't even realise they were coming to Japan until 3 weeks ago when I saw a Reddit comment about it so I'm glad I got a ticket.
I last saw them in 2013, which makes me feel super old now. Time flies. I'm glad they made a comeback 🤘
