That pic was taken in June 1984, of "women during the miners' strike, Fitzwilliam, Yorkshire" The country was not united then - Thatcher's war on the working class and the trade unions was in full swing, just like the truncheons wielded by the Met at Orgreave en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_...

That middle-ground tendency is going to get absolutely battered from all sides... and it will be others suggesting directions for the UK, not him - leaving the PM to be constantly responding to other people's leads, rather than leading himself with anything bold.
