Took several pictures of this beauty (Laetiporus gilbertsoni) just because it was nice to stop periodically to check on its progress on my way home from work #fungi #mycology
A photo of a fungal fruiting body taken from above, it is about 30cm wide made up of bright yellow bulbous shapes growing from oak roots Another photo of the same mushroom growth taken from near level with it. The bulbous shapes have expanded out into bunches of thick shelves. Pale orange can be seen on the deeper portions of the shelves. Another photo of the same fungus taken level with the fruiting body. The shelves have expanded fully and become thinner. They are more pale and also appear more dry and brittle. A fourth picture of the same mushroom taken at level with the fruiting body. The shelves have faded to a pale beige with a darker brown deeper between them. They are also beginning to deteriorate and break.
