That's part of the problem. Free weight exercises are so effective it's hard justify a grand or 2 on machines, but they are much more pleasant and allow better fatigue management. I've even switched to squats on a smith machine bc reaching failure is more consistent and doesn't make me want to die.

I would probably try to build a home gym if it wasn't for the L part of my 5 day PPL split. I love my machines, though, even if I'm stuck in the gym ~7 hours a week.
