Gotta tell you, being an academic studying American Masculinity & sexuality in media right now is a different kind of wild. When I started studying a decade ago we used to joke that these topics (religion, sex) used to be taboo, now they're just plain censored and in some cases outlawed. Insanity.

All of this is to say that David Lynch always felt special to me. He was prominent in every stage of my life, in relationships with family, friends, art and study.
It felt like he always gave me permission to be unique, to be weird, but also, to be human.
