Why did I ever buy these plastic figures? I get bouts of avoidism just looking at the instructions. Good thing I have some metal minis to get a proper start on my 1942 Australian Rifle platoon/Independent Company for the Timor campaign.

Except for another timely double six by Prussian artillery firing canister - faltering the enemy brigade.

Didn't help much in the end. The cavalry ended up where they started and the Prussian infantry and to attack their French counterparts on their own, courtesy of a mixed infantry and cavalry brigade... The Saxon column ended up even worse.

Woohoo! Hussars charging a square in General d'Armee 2

Thank you, it was awesome. After yesterday's collective jaw dropping of the local Historical Society, today was a great day to introduce wargaming to the wider public, including lots of kids.

Curious to find out how busy it will be tomorrow in Oudewater. This was the first time I saw my figures and Plungy's terrain together.

Working on a "sand table" for Oudewater 1575. For size, I fitted the wooden planks around the plates of previous projects (Oosterhout 1944 and Naarden 1673). The insides will be painted light blue.

With our Oudewater 1575 project nearing the end, we have started preparing small scenes like this lady with her wash line. All done by Plungy. In the meantime I am working on the more mundane task of basing 1000 infantry and adding flags.

A different style of photography is the issue. Magazines demand clear and crisp pictures, ideally from a SLR camera. These certainly do not benefit my painting style of 6mm. This photo was made in portrait mode with a phone camera, blurring near and far details on purpose.

This is my favourite photo of my own 6mm. It shows that it is hard to take good pictures of them, mostly because 6mm is about mass, not individual models. Individually, these Irregular 6mm are painted (and sculpted!) terribly, but as a whole I really like them and Irregular is my favourite brand.

This is most of my collection - in two rows, with the oldest on top.

Thank you. We're lucky that so many maps of the city exist, including this one which shows the defenses in 1575. It was made for the besieging Gilles de Berlaymont, count of Hierges. He led three Spanish tercios and several German and Walloon regiments against the eight defending companies.

The ground scale is at 1:300. This painting of the Siege of Oudewater is our inspiration (Dirck Stoop 1650), representing about a third of the city and even adding parts that the painter forgot. We will wargame right below the painting in city hall.

Our Oudewater 1575 project is moving along nicely. Plungy has just poured water in this city canal. In the meantime, I'm nearly done with 1000 infantry.

True, just mass by itself looks good, especially with a consistent basing style. I am trying that with the 16th century Spanish tercio I'm painting at the moment, but it is very easy to get distracted into detail again.

You might have confused my horses with @basderue French cavalry - he is our club's master painter.

Back in the day when I used my Warhammer Fantasy painting skills to do blacklined Napoleonic miniatures. Took me forever, but looked nice. Sigur Skwarl did his better in no time!

Last action at the En Avant! Sharp Practice event at BIG Bristol that did not happen. These pioneers were ready to break down the monastery door, but never got the chance because force morale broke.

One can never have enough flags. This was my first Blood & Plunder naval battle. I like the general activation mechanism, but not too fond of the gamyness of commanders.

Which reminds me that my replica shirt of the Corinthian-CASUALS FC would be an excellent colour inspiration for these men - fairly sure it is in competition for the ugliest kit ever, in a charming way!

Painting Warlord Epic ECW in Spanish 1575 style. Lots of reds and yellow to make them look Spanisher for our Oudewater project.

The Vallejo Game Wash is a huge time saver, but I am still wondering why they didn't wear uniforms back then!

Last summer I was terribly close to Austria (Dreiländerpunkt is but a stone's throw away from here), but I did not get to play any wargames.

I had the same issue - next time we should invite a "court photographer" 🙂.

It was such a joy to be able to play the brand new Crivitz scenario at #Cloglard, especially with Bas's gorgeous AB Frenchmen. Crossing a marsh crossing turned out to be a right challenge, so the French needed Soult's cavalry flank march to win the game.

Prussian Fusiliers pushed out of Crivitz in turn one of Gda2 at #ClogLard
