Absolutely - even though basically every character is honestly a horrible person, the game goes to such lengths to give them a humanizing, nuanced portrayal. Hell, even Sal Marcano gets his a tragic, Shakespearean downfall, you'd almost feel bad for him if he wasn't such a ruthless psychopath.

Love the writing in M3 in general. It hits a particular tone that's both pulpy but also genuinely dramatic, which isn't easy to pull off. Plus the period depicted automatically makes it a winner in my eyes.

It is! There's a scene of Colin Farrell beating a guy up that actually had me crying laughing, highly recommend it!

The second one tried to be an unlicensed film adaption of like every James Ellroy novel at once and thus came out a little messy and overloaded, but it has good vibes and some really cool and funny scenes even though it's impossible to follow the plot (that's noir babeyyy)

A rude subversion of hospitality where you invite guests to a feast only to commit moida. See: the Red Wedding, Titus Andronicus, Macbeth, the Abbasids and Umayyads in eight century Palestine as well as various biblical parables

(This skeet is inspired by the fact that I'm writing a bloody banquet scene to culminate a particularly theatric quest, drawing from Shakespeare, Euripides and various biblical parables in so doing)

you can learn so much about a player character from what they have the capacity to say, what they *might* say, but choose otherwise. it's something only novels can do as elegantly and effectively.

I should finally give that game another chance. The real-time combat seriously put me off the first time around.

If it's gonna make you feel more confident about making it publicly available again AND it's something you're really interested in, I'd say you should do it. I always had a soft spot for that mod, it has good vibes.

@ Microsoft @ Techland hey guys, it's me, the guy who can't even finish a quest mod in under 5 years - I'm gonna need 200 million Euros and a decade or so of time, I'm really on to something here 📈

The ending's always so jarring with these games & they always except you to care about characters you met an hour ago & whose motivations are nebulous at best.
Sons of the Forest in particular might just boast the most baffling finale out of any game I've played, it's unintentionally surrealist.

I'm taking it to a whole new *level*

Conversely, it's always nice when side characters just pop up somewhere in the background, chilling and continuing to live their life long after losing their narrative importance.
E.g. how characters from various cases in LA Noire can have small cameos in street crime side missions after.
