Opinions my own.

Our critique (below) was limited to 1,000 words, but the major point is that #cultivatedmeat is already being produced with predominantly food-grade inputs, so the worst-case scenarios in the study are completely irrelevant and made up.

Calling a spade a spade — the "lab-grown meat up to 25x worse than beef" headline is straight-up fake news, as outlined in a new peer-reviewed critique

The study's assumptions are completely disconnected from reality, yet it continues to be widely cited by the media

Encouraging to see the Indian government's Department of Biotechnology openly supporting the development of #cultivatedmeat 🇮🇳

One day we'll stop calling it lab-grown meat though🫠

Finished @mikegrunwald.bsky.social's book, which shows the urgency to develop solutions to address agriculture's climate problem

It highlights the overlooked concept of carbon opportunity costs of land use & isn't afraid to say that grass-fed beef is a climate disaster. Recommended read!

The #cultivatedmeat sector raised a whopping $0 in Q2 2025

With valuations down, positive movement in regulatory approvals, & underlying scientific advancements, it's probably never been a better time to invest

With multiple products now being sold in Singapore, Australia, & the U.S., w/ more to come, I decided it's time to start tracking the overall production volume for products destined for consumers

Draft figure to be refined with more accurate volume data as we get better numbers

The article was written before many products were approved

Antibiotics are used during initial cell isolation, not in manufacturing

This is directly from this product's FDA review. You will find the same facts in publicly available documentation of other products: www.fda.gov/food/human-f...

Six #cultivatedmeat companies have now received regulatory clearance, products are on sale in the United States, Singapore, and Australia, and additional products are under review in 10 different countries or regions.

Additionally, one cultivated pet food product is on sale in the U.K.

Cultivated meat startups raised $35M in Q1 2025, driven mostly by a single round by @AlephFarms

New funding is likely to remain mostly stalled until more regulatory approvals are granted around the world

Interesting paper simulates the effect of a carbon tax on conventional meat & cultivated proteins in Norway, showing a loss of conventional meat market share & number of farms

A carbon tax could have large consequences given the anticipated disparity, esp. for beef/dairy

Post-mortem processes important for meat quality are replicated in #cultivatedmeat

Still more work to be done on this topic, but not too surprising that cell biology stays the same whether the cells come from an animal or a cell culture

Scaling up: Australian startup Vow has reportedly successfully run its 20,000L bioreactor, the largest currently in operation in the #cultivatedmeat industry

This enables the harvesting of "many hundreds of kg" of cultivated meat in a single batch

1 tank, hundreds of kg of meat, no animals needed

Even if some countries decrease antibiotic use in animal ag & aquaculture, the global rise of meat demand will still lead to large increases in antibiotic use — >140k tons/yr by 2040.

All six #cultivatedmeat products approved to date use ZERO antibiotics in their production.

For the next 10 years, you will be told that a new clean, safe, & ethical way of meat production is actually dangerous, environmentally damaging, and about corporate control.

If you believe the latter, you'll be no better than the idiots who fought against electricity, refrigeration, and IVF.
