Tl;dr: this has decent reviews pretty much everywhere, so it must be doing something right, but I did not vibe with it. Dialogue was grating, premise was under used, and some gnarly grammar took me out of the story.

This was a weird read, but a good one. It’s not out and out jump scare horror, but more the creeping horror of banality. In some ways, having the tiniest sliver of hope is worse than no hope at all.
