American investors are looking overseas to Europe for diversification and greener pastures. The M&A market in Europe had its strongest year in a decade. Can this influx of capital help Europe build more globally competitive companies?

My first piece for EQT’s ThinQ:

M&A Revival Raises Hopes for Europe | ThinQ by EQT
After years on the sidelines, Europe is becoming a global dealmaking hotspot. Whether this wave leads to lasting champions remains to be seen.

“Walmart was the top employer of SNAP recipients in five states and one of the top four employers in the remaining four states. McDonald’s was among the top five employers of Medicaid enrollees in five of six states and SNAP recipients in eight of nine states.”

Whenever people complain about the number of folks relying on food stamps, it is worth reminding them that SNAP is, by too large of a degree, a subsidy for corporations that refuse to pay a living wage and their political allies who reject public policy prescriptions to reduce income inequality.

Not the government shutdown. Not the prospect of millions going hungry or without healthcare. Not his dropping popularity, or that he destroyed property that isn't his to destroy.

Usually we do this in war zones or flood zones or to look for nuclear facilities. Now it's our own president demolishing a large portion of the most famous and historic federal building in the country, without notice to Americans

I’m working on a story about the rise of convenience stores as go-to places for prepared food (not just snacks but actual food like salads, sandwiches or even fresh-brewed coffee). Are you someone who stops by Wawa, Casey’s, Sheetz or elsewhere? I’d love to hear from you. ellen@ellensheng.com

With all the debate going about the Fed and interest rates, it felt like a great time to look back at how the Federal Reserve began. Here's my first piece for History.com on the wild panic of 1907 and the birth of America's central bank.

The Financial Panic That Gave Birth to the Federal Reserve
In 1907, bank failures exposed the financial system's fragility.

When I was a young reporter at Dow Jones, I once received an angry call from an investor who didn't like my story about the market drop and wanted me to fix it. Markets are supposed to go "boom." Are reporters now getting angry calls from the White House?

I've been getting all these emails for beauty seminars, like how to massage your hands or secrets to glass skin. I'm not an influencer. Is this some new trend?

The word "systemic" is on the banned list, so if I study systemic inflammation & health, flagged. If I study political science, flagged. If I study trauma, flagged. Keep in mind that the largest mental health provider in the country is the Veteran's Administration, but we can't study trauma now?
