If you can see Kelly Reichardt’s THE MASTERMIND in a theater, totally recommend. Such a fun score, beautiful muted visuals, some great slapstick moments, end that surprised me and was exactly what the character deserved.

Things are going great in Philly! Mayor Parker definitely has things under control and this is better than giving the garbage men an extra $2k a year!!!

If the squirrels will allow it, I have a lot of exciting things happening in the yard this summer

Found the whole supplement. Even as a vegetarian, I know a POUND of meat is too much for a burger? This supplement also has guidance on camping, surviving heat waves, stuff where wrong guidance could be REALLY BAD? How can I trust a word in here?

Just realized that the AI slop also made it into the @inquirer.com. So glad I saved this list of novels that do not exist!!!

If you live in Philly and can get yourself a street tree, do it! I got mine through the city, only took a year to arrive, and not only have I not killed it in the 3 weeks I’ve had it…it’s flowering! Makes me happy every time I look outside. www.phila.gov/services/tre...

It’s good to have such talented and successful friends as @sophiahuneycutt.bsky.social! I cannot wait to buy this book!!!

On my list of smaller complaints these days…pretty 100% sure I am getting targeted ads based on my novel manuscript. If you would like to buy the pictured two-seater vehicle, it exists only in the worlds of my novel and my Internet ads

1/6/25: Tatyana Tolstaya, “The Window”, in THE BIG BOOK OF MODERN FANTASY. Such a great story. I read her novel THE SLYNX which was a wild ride, and I think I’m liking her more at shorter length. If you can get your hands on this, read it!

The new Wallace and Gromit film is so good. A++. VENGEANCE MOST FOWL, on Netflix. Don’t trust everything to technology…Gromit knows!

My Christmas gift to me arrived! An electric typewriter so I can write more pages/make more typos than I can on the manual! (I am, I think, accepting that I can no longer be trusted to write on anything with an internet connection.)

So this year I bought a rowhome with a little garden, and I’m trying to turn it into a hip spot for pollinators next year. And am also trying winter sowing for the first time…first batch of seeds is out! Cross your fingers!!

Post a PERFECT album from the 90s that isn’t Nirvana or Pearl Jam.

Haha, my problem is that after a summer warring against the squirrels, I’ve given up fighting them because they always win (and also make me laugh)

I added a bird feeder to my garden setup and am being eaten out of house and home. It’s not just the squirrel! I’ve got like 30 birds back here all morning, every morning!! I welcome advice on how not to spend $100 a month on seeds and peanuts.

A bundle of anxiety and praying Philly turns OUT for Harris/Walz today. My ballot is cast!!

So psyched that Bipin Aurora’s story “The Terrorist”, which we published in The Journal last year, is a notable story in BASS 2023! This story is amazing and must be read! thejournalmag.org/archives/21277
