Curtailing illegal immigration, which a majority of Americans support, is not the same as revoking the status of legal immigrants because of their speech, race, religion, or country of origin, and deporting them without charges or due process. One is law enforcement. The other is lawlessness.

Every time a large group of protestors show up to demand answers from their members of Congress, we hear about “paid protesters.” If we had the money to pay protesters all over the country, why wouldn’t we have just spent it on buying Congressional seats, like Republicans do?

Democracy is a chess game. Policy choices are moves. Democrats are focused on policy, but Republicans are eating some of the pieces and nibbling on the board. Strategy around policy doesn’t matter if the game is destroyed. We need everyone—left, right and center—to work together to defend it.
