Kelly Rimmer's "The Things We Cannot Say" is one of the best fiction (although it *is* inspired by her true family history) books I've read recently. Here's a very relevant quote:

Shortbread circle embossed with thistles. This one has sprinklings of lavender in it adding a new dimension to the buttery flavour. Not everyone's favourite but definitely special. A bit of lavender can go in sugar cookie recipes as well.

A huge bowl of blackberries. If you know this berry you can imagine the fragrance and you may even feel the sting of the thorns. The very best berry is always just out of reach but you will try to grab it anyway so wear long sleeves even though it's hot out!

Hard Bread, also known as Hard tack, has been a dietary staple of Newfoundlanders for decades. Hard Bread was developed from the ancient sea biscuit which formed the basis of meals on fishing vessels and cargo ships prior to the 1840s when baking onboard was impossible. Due to its long shelf life, hard bread was an ideal substitute for fresh bread. As one tale goes, a cook on a schooner was preparing a meal of hard bread and fish for the crew and was asked to break-up the bread, or ”bruise” the bread prior to it being soaked. Thus the term “Brewis”.

"Tell me Everything" by @lizstrout.bsky.social had a moment that I can't stop thinking about... when Charlene Bibber stops volunteering at the food pantry. It's a tiny thing but also a vivid, compassionate example one more brick in the huge wall of division. I loved this book.

My Book Challenge is complete. On reviewing the list of books I shared, I notice that some postings got no engagement at all (the ones in bold italics on the screenshot here). I wonder if it’s because they are less well-known books or ?

Did some follow-up this morning. The federal health website says clearly “Seasonal influenza vaccines do not offer protection against influenza A(H5N1).”

So the ambiguous wording of the BC site seems misleading at best.

They might as well tell us to wear sunscreen so we don't have sunburn and bird flu at the same time (Copied) People working or in contact with AI infected or suspect birds can take actions to prevent the spread of AI: Wear protective clothing, including face masks, goggles, gloves and boots Get an annual vaccination against seasonal human influenza. This reduces the chance that you become infected with both human and bird flu strains at the same time. Find a flu vaccine clinic near you.
