All it takes is something like showing that a US-based group using similar language or talking points as one of these designated "terrorist" groups to generate accusations of "coordination."

Current law is essentially entirely at the discretion of the unchecked Executive branch of our government.

There's a glaring opportunity here for aggressive prosecutors with a political agenda, under pressure from an authoritarian administration, to try for terrorism charges against otherwise law-abiding activists or nonprofits alleged to be engaged in "coordinated" "antifa" advocacy.

Most concerningly: it includes coordinated advocacy. SCOTUS clarified that INDEPENDENT advocacy remains protected by the First Amendment. But there's been essentially no guidance on the line between "independent" and "coordinated" advocacy - lots of room to push the legal boundaries.

It also means giving specialized expertise or advice to a group on that list, even for peaceful and lawful purposes (like training them how to resolve grievances nonviolently).

"Material support" does not just mean support for specific violent acts. It also means membership in any group that the administration determines (with virtually full discretion and no oversight or due process, prone to politicization and weaponization) is a "Foreign Terrorist Organization."

They may attempt to argue NGOs/activists are providing illegal "material support" to one of these groups through their peaceful political speech and activities that happens to mimic the groups' alleged ideology.

It's just one frightening possibility current law makes possible.

There will be some "Wow you can't make these people happy" sentiment but what's really happening is the Dems are beginning to reap the consequences of not really believing in anything. Choreographed maneuvers, too clever by half talking points. People have just had it
