This is a misleading headline. We have recently seen layoffs similar to 2020 at the beginning of COVID-19. If you are asking, "Why are we seeing almost record-high layoffs with a downturn in unemp?" When people are laid off, they generally get 2 mos of pay and benefits = no unemployment benefits.

I can’t believe they called prop 50 the moment polls closed. That tells you something. Most of these races were called within 45 minutes. It’s a BLOWOUT, y’all. THAT is what we call a MANDATE.

Just a thought for the future: Don't engineer a government shutdown just before/during an election. Especially when the majority party is vastly unpopular and is the cause of the shutdown.
