Making the bold choice to prioritize their communities by investing to make #guaranteedincome program permanent?! We're celebrating y'all 💙
Cook County is making history. President Toni Preckwinkle’s 2026 budget makes the nation’s largest #guaranteedincome program permanent — putting $ directly in the pockets of working families. ESIL is proud to partner on this nation-leading effort.

I spoke w/ @kiro7seattle.bsky.social about how WA tax revenue is down because consumer spending is down. The piece focuses on the possibility of a recession, but let's not forget that the budget would have more $ if ultra-wealthy & corporations paid their share of taxes www.kiro7.com/news/local/w...
WA General Fund shortfall expected to grow by $903M. Is a recession looming?
The latest prediction from the Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council shows the state’s budget situation continuing to deteriorate.

My thoughts on the state revenue forecast are in the link below. The gist? WA's tax code, which over-relies on the inequitable sales tax, isn't keeping pace with economic growth. And in the face of so many federal budget cuts to important programs, #WaLeg & the gov must enact new progressive revenue
State revenue is projected to decrease by $900M thru 2029, largely due to a decline in sales tax collections. Given rising costs, people resort to cost-saving measures...& the state budget suffers. #WaLeg needs to enact better revenue options. Read our statement:
Revenue not keeping pace with economic growth. Lawmakers need to be bold. - Budget and Policy Center
The Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council announced today a $900 million decrease in projected revenue over the next two biennial budgets, through 2029.

Curious about the ins and outs of the horrible Congressional Republican megabill and its impact on WA? Check out these analyses by my colleagues. (Also I'm excited to be on Bluesky now to join the public conversation happening here!)
We’ve got not one, but 2 blog posts ready. The TLDR? The bill provides a windfall for the wealthiest 1%, while cutting access to healthcare and raising the costs of groceries for everyday people. You can read our analysis on Schmudget now: budgetandpolicy.org/schmudget/
