THIS!
Why does Bryan, a tech executive in Seattle, want to see a Millionaires Tax that he would pay?

Hear him explain ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Go Jed!
Jed Fowler: "I am someone who would pay this tax, and I am here in support of this bill."

"Fixing upside down tax code is good for business, can only be as strong as the community I am willing to pay this tax and I urge you to pass SB 6346"

So pumped I got to testify among a roomful of SO MANY amazing advocates who know now is the time for #WaLeg to pass a Millionaires Tax to fund our communities! Let's do this!
First up @budget-policy.bsky.social ED Eli Taylor Goss: "This is a monumental opportunity to shift our upside down tax code right side up. Wealthiest should stop getting a special deal, we should fund health care and cash assistance."

Let's pass this bill!

From our policy director: WA must stop funneling money into extreme sentences with little public benefit. By passing HB 1125, #WaLeg can strengthen communities and stop using taxpayer money to punish an aging & sick population. @esidewalkitout.bsky.social washingtonstatestandard.com/2026/01/21/w...

Emily Vanhanek from @budget-policy.bsky.social: in the last 2 years, 6/8 forecasts have budget shortfalls, driven by declining sales tax collections & overreliance on regressive taxes.

"We have an abundance of wealth in this state, but a tax code that asks those with the least to pay the most."

This #WaLeg session, we’re working w/ partners to demystify WA's budget + taxes. I recently joined @investwanow.bsky.social & the Office of Financial Management for a “Budget and Taxes 101” presentation for The WA State Institute for a Democratic Future – helping advocates stay informed & engaged!

As @rianwatt.bsky.social & I wrote in this piece, there are tangible solutions #WaLeg can enact this session to end cyclical revenue shortfalls, fix our tax code & create a more affordable WA. They must reject harmful budget cuts & ensure corporations & the ultra-wealthy pay their share in taxes.

Legislative session, here we come!
Our 2026 legislative agenda calls on #WaLeg to enact much-needed progressive revenue, reject cuts to programs that serve us all, and center the needs of everyone most impacted by the affordability crisis.

As B&PC's Emily notes in this piece, WA has a great workforce that corporations rely on. Plus, the infrastructure to support workers gets stronger when there's funding for child care, transit, etc. The truth is that taxing employers w/ high earners is just good for WA @organizewithshaun.bsky.social
Rep. Shaun Scott wants to plug Trump’s cuts with a statewide high earner payroll tax. It could raise 3 billion dollars a year for higher ed, clean energy, SNAP, and more. Conservatives are already shouting that businesses will leave. Advocates say that threat is empty.

Yes! As our friends at GRIT & Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services say in this op-ed, WA needs a statewide direct-cash pilot for new parents & families expecting kids. Also big ❤️ to Perigee Fund for contributing $50,000 to WA DSHS to develop a proposal & collaborate to scale this proven model.
WA direct cash pilot programs are creating a better future for parents & babies! GRIT provides cash to some single parents in Pierce Co's high-need ZIP codes. The Nest, run by Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services, pairs cash w/ Indigenous-centered care.

I spoke w/ @kiro7seattle.bsky.social about how WA tax revenue is down because consumer spending is down. The piece focuses on the possibility of a recession, but let's not forget that the budget would have more $ if ultra-wealthy & corporations paid their share of taxes www.kiro7.com/news/local/w...
WA General Fund shortfall expected to grow by $903M. Is a recession looming?
The latest prediction from the Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council shows the state’s budget situation continuing to deteriorate.

My thoughts on the state revenue forecast are in the link below. The gist? WA's tax code, which over-relies on the inequitable sales tax, isn't keeping pace with economic growth. And in the face of so many federal budget cuts to important programs, #WaLeg & the gov must enact new progressive revenue
State revenue is projected to decrease by $900M thru 2029, largely due to a decline in sales tax collections. Given rising costs, people resort to cost-saving measures...& the state budget suffers. #WaLeg needs to enact better revenue options. Read our statement:
Revenue not keeping pace with economic growth. Lawmakers need to be bold. - Budget and Policy Center
The Washington State Economic and Revenue Forecast Council announced today a $900 million decrease in projected revenue over the next two biennial budgets, through 2029.
