‘The Angel of Grief’ was sculpted by artist William Wetmore Story for his wife Emelyn, whose death in 1894 devastated him to the point that this was the last sculpture he ever did. He died the following year of a broken heart. The Angel is in the Protestant Cemetery in Rome.
