The funny thing is there is actual, real and maybe-useful cancer research and detection stuff using AI…but other kinds. Not massive LLMs, which is the only kind of AI his company sells.

I volunteer for a crisis text line and lately find myself having to prove I’m real to skeptical visitors. Current situation seems bad for everyone except the execs who convinced themselves it saves money

I think that’s true but also the alternative is sometimes a flaky homegrown Excel automation that took a very long time to build, rather than learning how a simple database works.

I once paid a fee for last-minute cancellation. Which, ok, sure. A few months later I’m in the waiting room and am told the same doc has car trouble and can’t make. I said no problem but I want my $10 back and they thought I was joking!

It does something clever with how the indexes are chunked I think but it’s faster than I woulda thought. Search box on the-toast.archive.town runs it.
