You've already had some excellent ideas - I'd add elastic in there as well, in different widths, and bias tape for binding edges - it makes a huge difference. Also some good hand sewing needles. I've been starting out again in sewing and I'm building my kit up as well!

Thank you!! It's more about how you use the thread to create subtle shades and tones. Thread painting tends to only use the long and short stitch, the split stitch and the satin stitch, unlike other forms of embroidery that can use hundreds of different types of stitches.

Thank you!! Cross stitch is actually a form of embroidery - thread painting is another. Embroidery is umbrella term that encompasses a lot of different types of needlework.
