I'm working on finding ways to speed up my work wherever possible. (I work slow!) I took all my hand-written exclamations from the first four Ashita no Joe volumes & made a master chart of marker/ink letters. Took several hours, but should hopefully save time in the long run! (Working on vol 5 now.)

And with that, my David Lynch movie & TV collection is complete! Extra special thanks to my buddy Aidan @cranchyroll.com who gave me this copy of Straight Story at AnimeNYC recently. Haven’t had time to watch it (or much of anything) lately but looking forward to it!

Saw Bugonia tonight (loved it!)
I love the typeface that is used in the title and credits. Coincidentally, I hacked together an alphabet last year for Tank Chair's Guicheng Academy signage/computers, w similar counters (letter holes), & it looks like a much tamer version of the Bugonia one. 😅

I’m driving back from Albert Lea Minnesota and stopped in Austin. Checked out a Frank Lloyd Wright House (Elam House) then visited the SPAM Museum!
The museum is fun and quirky. They have a Japan section and the cute SPAM song that was playing reminded me of what I most love about Japan: whimsy.

I’ve been periodically reorganizing my closet, dresser, & t-shirt rack as I lose weight. Phasing in stuff I can fit into again and phasing out other things. Y’know, for someone who was a goth in high school, my wardrobe nowadays is pretty colorful!

Currently enjoying my last bag of GK Snacks Asian Stack Mix. Bought like eight bags of these before Big Lots restructured/closed and we’ve been rationing them since. They’re hard to find at a good price online. Best Japanese-ish crackers found stateside IMHO. I will miss these yummy crackers…

A rough pen sketch, but I just drew Niagara Falls, with Canada in the background. It’s hard to even comprehend its natural beauty in person and it’s very hard to draw the violent waters and soft cold mists and have it make any visual sense on paper!

Last night I won my first manga award - the lettering award at the 2nd annual American Manga Awards! Thank you everybody 🥰
The lettering legend Tom Orzechowski presented it to me. That blew my mind because I’ve read & enjoyed so much of his work. He & Studio Proteus were a big influence for me.

While I’m beverage posting… here’s something special. Just available in my area - Michigan and the Toledo OH area. Vernors ginger ale + vanilla. 🫚 Pretty damn good!
Hope they try a more nationwide release. (Wish they offered a zero calorie version though.)
