Mister Rogers was the real deal. He believed in kids and taught me that I was special just for being me. He also took steps against bigotry on his show. There was nothing weird, creepy or insincere about him. He really wanted kids to feel special and good about themselves and to be kind to others.

Toxic forgiveness, is what it is. They are obsessed with it. It’s because they believe Jesus forgave their sins sins so they could go to Heaven. That’s where it comes from.

Christians are very focused on forgiveness. It seems more important that someone be forgiven than that they take consequences for their actions. I had an aunt who I told about my abuse and she just thought I should forgive the family member, without my them even admitting she did anything wrong.

I know I’m spoiled because I’ve only ever lived in Portland, Oregon. I’ve visited a few places that were very different culturally (Southern California, Salt Lake City, NYC), but I’ve never been to Texas other than a layover at the airport. It doesn’t sound like a place I’d ever want to visit.
