I'm excited to share that the book I'm co-authoring with my daughter, 'Sea Legs' (coming 2027), has been shortlisted for the #sustainablestoryaward from World of Books. The Award highlights authors whose work speaks to urgent themes of social justice and sustainable futures.

Today was my last day working with P6/P7 classes at the National Museum of Flight for Tyne and Esk Writers. Thank you to the Scottish Book Trust for supporting these sessions through the Live Literature Programme.

Delighted to say I'm now represented by the wonderful Sabhbh Curran at Curtis Brown. With my daughter, Oona, I'm currently working on a memoir about #caring for each other, #paraswimming and disabled sea mammals. 💙

Seal pups today on Inchkeith Island (at a distance with a very long lens). My daughter thought the pups’ calls carrying over the water sounded like owls. My son said a zombie apocalypse.

My daughter Oona is ten. She swims laps while I sit by the pool on a folded towel and write. When I was ten, I hated swimming lessons, but now I love the smell of chlorine. I sniff out local leisure centres when I need to focus on my writing. #Writers, where are the weirdest places you go to work?

November 1942. The British decided that my grandmother was no longer an 'enemy alien'. In June 2021, my research on my grandmother's life was presented in the Bundestag, helping amend Germany's citizenship law. The historical chapters in my novel 'Connective Tissue' tell the story of her family.

Looking forward to reading from Connective Tissue alongside fellow #authors @chitgrrl.bsky.social and Jean Barr at Portobello Book Festival this weekend.
