Congratulations to all of the Thornton's Books team. I loved being part of this wonderful and fascinating project and discovering the 17th-century life wrintings of Alice Thornton. #writers #authors I highly recommend delving into this fantastic free resource.
Big news! The digital edition of Alice Thornton's four Books is now complete and online. There are 1,019 pages (c. 270,000 words) of Thornton’s life-writings in both modernised and semi-diplomatic versions and they are fully searchable.

Watching last night's Up Helly Aa with my dad. He has held onto the memory of this from when he was a boy, and his dad George being one of the Vikings carrying the galley.

If you're going to post a picture about a book, *say something* about it. I hate these "post a book, say nothing" challenges. "This is a book" is not discourse.

My daughter Oona is ten. She swims laps while I sit by the pool on a folded towel and write. When I was ten, I hated swimming lessons, but now I love the smell of chlorine. I sniff out local leisure centres when I need to focus on my writing. #Writers, where are the weirdest places you go to work?

November 1942. The British decided that my grandmother was no longer an 'enemy alien'. In June 2021, my research on my grandmother's life was presented in the Bundestag, helping amend Germany's citizenship law. The historical chapters in my novel 'Connective Tissue' tell the story of her family.
