This is one of those rare social media posts that is *even better* without the context.

It occurs to me that the dopamine I'm getting from the WSFS Situation is very similar to the dopamine I used to get from scrolling fandom wank.

For a weighty example: "But look, here's a female CEO/Oscar-winning director/political leader" does not disprove "there is bias and prejudice holding back women from high-profile public roles." Similarly, "here are some YA/adjacent books which won awards" ... you can fill in the rest.

You can have award-winning examples from a genre or group and still have that group be structurally and invisibly disadvantaged within a culture or setting.

Every time I get angry about gatekeeping I remind myself about that incident and am immediately flooded with very soothing schadenfreude. Your trufan mic drop invoked the same feeling!

You're coming in late to a very active discussion involving actual trademark lawyers; the points you raise have already been discussed plenty - in detail.

And "means well, not competent" can be *more* damaging in situations like this than active malice. Fandom came together against the Sad Puppies' slating, but faced with an incompetent beloved insider, the Geek Social Fallacies kick in, and the insider can do a lot of entirely unintentional damage.

I hear you. Last year I wrote in my journal "Who would I be if I could do things?" and I hope one day I get to figure out the answer to that question.

My Big Job for this year is to pursue an ADHD Dx for myself. Knowing that 'Lost Girls Generation' is a thing is making me feel things. Ugh, I'm not equipped for this.

I'm getting all my dopamine right now from Law People getting sucked into the Hugos Saga and I don't know what I'm going to do when there's no new law people to throw into the meat grinder. FETCH ME MORE LAWYERS, PEOPLE. WE'VE PROGRESSED FROM IP TO TAXES AND ORGANIZATION
