Ahead of Black Friday tomorrow, we've previewed the deal offered by the SG & COSLA. Who remembers the SG''s "Promise Now, Deliver 5 Years Later" deal offered in 2021? Always read the small print with these deals: who noticed it could only be delivered by the threat of industrial action?

Teachers in Scotland have more contact time than teachers in Colombia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, France, Netherlands, Spain, Estonia, Hungary, Israel, Switzerland, Germany, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Iceland, Czechia, Korea, Norway, Romania, Japan, Turkey, Bulgaria... #su4qe @eisunion

A red line for the EIS is that the 90 mins reduction in contact time must be given to teachers to use for preparing lessons and assessment. This time would solely be directed by the teacher in order to help with the huge workload. Please put your ballot in the post today #su4qe @eisunion

Our friends @EdinburghEIS would like to extend the invitation of their All Members' Ballot Meeting to any Fife EIS members who live in Edinburgh. Please see details attached.

Jane, Fife EIS Secretary, and Inverkeithing HS, are voting yes. We're running branch meetings to encourage a huge yes/yes vote. Achieving a super-majority for yes/yes will give our negotiators the best chance of securing positive steps in reducing our workload #su4qe @eisunion

Research from the University of the West of Scotland shows that without change teacher workload is predicted to rise even further. We need the 90 min reduction in place as a first step to sustainable workloads. Please make sure your ballot paper is in the post. #su4qe @eisunion

Duloch PS, Dunfermline, are voting yes/yes for more permanent contracts, more collaboration on the curriculum, and more time to meet the needs of the pupils. #su4qe @eisunion

This pair are amazing, but like teachers they have a lot to do in December! Get your ballot in the post today, before the Christmas post, to ensure a huge vote against unhealthy workload #su4qe @eisunion

The amount of unpaid overtime put in to keep the system running equates to two months of the academic year. This work is essential and needs to be valued with time given during the working week. Make sure your new ballot paper is in the post today! #su4qe @eisunion

A reduction in contact time would be fully funded so this is a vote for more permanently employed teachers, which we really need! Thanks for sharing your postbox pic @eisunion #su4qe

Our VP and assistant secretary are part of the EIS delegation to #stucdisabledworkers25 conference. I'ts shaping up to be a very busy conference with lots of important issues being debated.

The pressure we are leveraging to deliver a reduction in workload is having some impact. A super-majority for industrial action further increases the pressure on employers to deliver. This means we can't leave it to someone else to do the voting. Please, get your ballot papers in the post today.

That's mine in the post! Every yes/yes vote posted increases our power in negotiations. Remember, you must vote by post with the new ballot paper sent to you this week. #su4qe @eisunion

It remains the case that the best way for EIS members to get an improvement to workload is to vote in our ballot: vote early, and vote yes to strike action and yes to action short of strike
November 21, 2025 at 8:32 AM
St Columba's PS in Cupar are voting yes/yes. A yes/yes vote is neccessary to get a concrete plan on the implementation of reduced class contact time which is 290 days overdue. #su4qe @eisunion

The point is that Scotland is part of a nation state with huge resources. We can afford lesson planning. Some figures for you below. You should be able to find the figure for England, Wales and NI online but it's often not expressed in the same way.

Scotland's teachers have more contact time than almost every country in the OECD. We have double the amount of some countries. This is despite the UK being the fifth most wealthy country in the world and being able to afford a bigger investment in teachers and pupils. #su4qe

Promises have been made to learners and parents/carers too. With ASNs increasing the job cannot be done with the time we have available. When the new ballot paper arrives, return it with a yes/yes vote as a first step to achieving manageable workload and appropriate ASN support #SU4QE @eisunion

Jane, our Fife EIS Secretary sees everyday the work-related stress and ill health caused by overwork. Let's protect each other by voting yes/yes as soon as the new ballot paper arrives as a first step in reducing our unhealthy workload. #su4qe @eisunion

Our branch meeting yesterday heard about how the reduction in CCT would be fully funded to employ more permanent, fully qualified teachers. Those new teachers would plan and assess like all other teachers. This would reduce our workload and improve pupil outcomes #su4qe @eisunion

Thanks to everyone who came to our meeting today. Here are some of the reasons teachers shared they are voting yes/yes #su4qe @eisunion
