And it leaves me with questions. While the "assigns" were hailed as heros at the time, did George ever realize how he participated in cold blooded murder? Did he have remorse? Or was he driven by fear of being targeted or even being held accountable? There's no real way to know. When we pry open

There has even been a movie - a 1999 movie staring Christopher Walken called Vendetta based on the story. Yet I don't even know who in the family was aware of the explosive news. My mom never mentioned it - and she remained close to at least two of her cousins, daughters of George.

many news articles published upon his death (15 Jul 1955). I'd never heard of the event and I doubt many people have but it was pretty explosive at the time and caused international issues with Italy.

their long marriage - their children being born in mostly different cities. George was a newspaper man. Aunt Zetta was an imposing woman who operated boarding houses and owned grocery stores. Zetta and George divorced on 1 April 1922 and George all but disappeared from the city and the family.
