Please tell your kids, every damn day if necessary, that chatGPT is not a goddamn search engine and you shouldn’t believe a word it says. Tell the adults too, but it’s especially imperative to inoculate kids against this
Well this is grim

One of the hardest skills to develop in medicine—one that simply cannot be learned from books and must be taught and encouraged by example—is the ability to take a step back and say “Wait a minute, that doesn’t make any god damn sense.”

I spoke to @ameliaknisely at West Virginia Watch about how there are "no guardrails" on #WVU's massive cuts because faculty will has been subverted and the plan is both haphazard and poorly argued. Gee looks like a tool and the cuts are not sustainable. He's breaking the university.

What’s happening at WVU is demoralizing by design.

They will drag this out, unfurling one gratuitous cruelty after another like teasers for a Summer Blockbuster.

It’s supposed to make it seem insurmountable.

But they wouldn’t do it this way if they knew they held all the cards.

I ordered a book that my institution’s (well-funded) library doesn’t have. The magic of ILL found it at WVU. The strength of the university system in the US depends on a network of institutions across the country. Without WVU and similar universities the quality of all our work and teaching suffers.

A lot of space has been devoted to the crisis at WVU.

But what else could, and should, a public university be?

Teaching online over the summer is a weird vibe for everyone, but it’s nice to wear t-shirts to work and chill with my cats.
