This misses that you have to pay human drivers, but driveress cars take no wage - also every taxi service, traditional or otherwise, has to shut down when noone needs a ride, its not a new problem for self driveing vehicles

Btw i'm not saying the Turing test has or has not been passed, I'm saying you can make a good argument both ways and that makes the test 'fluffy'

I can't believe you're saying people that grade university level course work don't care if all their students are cheating - there's pleaty of angst about it out there (www.economist.com/podcasts/202...)
- reasonble people with good domain knowledge are worried because the problem is hard.

I wonder what counts as sceptical enough? University lecturers struggle to distinguish AI generated coursework from things written by their students - clear incentive to distinguish one from the other and as much skepticism as could be wished for - would you consider that a pass or not?

Isn't the Turing test passed by just proving that a group of people can't distinguish between a machine and another person?

Its a criteria fluffy enough that it can reasonably be claimed simple chat bots from the 2000s have passed it and at the same time that the latest LLMs have not.

Where is this from - its a bit blurry but is it suggesting there is some fixed casualty limit that, once breached, will cause the Ukrainians to give up?

Also if that plot is showing cumulative casualties over time why does it rise and fall?

Would love more about how that model is put together

Europe must also reduce what we give the Russians in hydrocarbon revenue.

How can we justify spending all this money on Ukraine when we give just as much to Russia though oil and gas sales - we've got to commit to defeating Russia - cutting energy ties now will shorten the war and ultimately save $

This is still one of the most horrible ideas I have yet come across

also how is this patentable? All that's changed is the type of user input required to skip an add

Why are they talking about compute power in watts? Thought flops was the relevant unit?

They care about computing capacity not power consumption don't they?

Its interesting to note that 3 of 7 members of the CCP politbuero are engineers by training including Xi Jinping - whereas the US cabinet the most common academic background is law school (7 of 17) followed by political science degrees (3 of 17)

Has the method they've used to estimate global temperature rise by 2100 changed since 2009?

Does anyone now how this was estimated?
