This lens shifts #SLO from corporate risk mitigation to collective #governance. The paper introduces a new framework & revisits a lithium mining case in Chile’s Atacama Desert - where conflict gave way to a negotiated agreement.

#SLO is often seen as a managerial tool to prevent community resistance. But absence of protest ≠ legitimacy. The authors propose understanding SLO as a social institution: a stable, accountable relationship between companies & local communities based on mutual expectations.

The epilogue reflects on the project itself: Was all the effort worth it? We explore the impact of the symposia series on academic conferencing, interdisciplinarity & spatial thinking with a survey of 280 participants!
