Doesn't mean we shouldn't be talking about it, moving the overton window, bringing more peaceable nations on board with it and then when Russia eventually becomes an actual democracy (long after Putin's death) it might be possible. Don't vote for @greenparty.org.uk says Darren Jones. They're making undeliverable promises. And remember Labour's manifesto promises? Yeah, undeliverable because we're making the "*right* decisions".

It’s their responsibility to explain to people how they would actually choose what to do if they were in government, as opposed to just promising things that are undeliverable. Before Rachel Reeves’s budget later this month, at which she is preparing to increase income tax, the chancellor’s former No 2 defended breaking manifesto commitments if necessary. “You make manifesto commitments because they’re important. You wouldn’t make them lightly, but equally, if you’re in government, you’ve got to be frank with the public about the trade-offs in the situations that you have and take the right decisions for the country, even if that makes you unpopular,” he said.

The bit that really p'd me off tho was comparing Green policies, carefully built by working groups before being put before the wider party, to Reform's kneejerk pronouncements, lucky to see the back of a cig packet for "detail".

So, why is that so? "Reducing inequality" (scare quotes his) and "fewer millionaires". That's it.
It looks as if Starmer does indeed have to start worrying about the Greens, but so should the rest of us. Polanski has made a wealth tax the central part of his pitch, and with admirable candour he’s conceded that it isn’t even about raising money (because it won’t) – it’s about “reducing inequality.” For the crazy Greens, fewer millionaires is not just a means to an end but an end in itself.

Amazing what effect tiny numbers can have on the discourse when amplified by powerful voices and the media, isn't it?
