Yeah that's a whole lot of farmland and a lot fewer people amongst whom to divide up that per capita revenue. From I can see, farming represents .8-1% of the U.S. GDP.

Don't kid yourself Democrats have won razor thin victories in Georgia because of the Atlanta metro area, and some disillusioned Republicans staying home, not because the white rural population heard a Bernie Sanders speech and had some grand epiphany.

Like I said, politicians aren't the only ones these people wall themselves off from listening to. There's no shortage of people out there who have tried and tried to reach out and get through to them only to see them turn around and vote against their interests time and again.
