Despite the bickering between them (light, filling Lotus Pier with a delightful air that once seemed impossible to regain again), all passing disciples and servants could see the softened gaze full of love that Jiang-furen kept fixed on Jiang-zongzhu. If he was rolling thunder, the fierce lightning strikes splitting columns of dark clouds, she was the sun itself. She was the warm light cloaking his shoulders, and reflecting off the lotus-filled waters. They were inseparable. Everyone saw how she rarely ever left her husband's side, and was far more touchy than anyone dared to be. It was still amazing to some of the disciples, witnessing Jiang-furen squish her husband's cheeks with a melodic laugh. They would avert their gaze respectfully when she would kiss him, feeling the sight was forbidden, meant only for Jiang-zongzhu's eyes alone. They would pretend not to notice her fingers slightly curled around his, believing that her sleeves onscured it enough. They would certainly pretend not to notice, when Jiang-zongzhu would keep a protective - possessive - hand on the small of her back, his palm molding to the curves of her skin. His gaze would noticeably soften, receiving a bright smile from his wife in return. One of the numerous small moments that if one blinked, it would dissipate into wisps of incense. The one truth Lotus Pier knew, apart from the certainty of Jiang-zongzhu's ferocity and sharp attitude, was that Jiang-zongzhu loved Jiang-furen so deeply, and she him. If anything befell her, he would not rest until the entire world was overturned and the culprit suffering a fate worse than death. She was his light, a warmth he once shied away from but now held as gently as he could, fearing he would break it. He feared watching that light flicker out, and losing it forever. He didn't want to make her hate him. He never wanted to lose her, after he was so close to having her life fade away in his arms during the Sunshot Campaign.
