Uh, I'm no expert, but may I recommend GETTING RID OF DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME?? People are having heart attacks? 😭
According to the Associated Press, gaining an hour tends to be easier for most people than losing it, though everybody’s internal clock still needs to adjust. Studies have found heart attacks and strokes tend to increase right after DST starts in March, while sleep struggles and depression (including seasonal affective disorder) can occur more often in the shorter days of fall and winter. As a result, experts recommend preparing for the changing of clocks by shifting bedtimes little by little in the days ahead. Aim for the same amount of sunshine or more to help reset your circadian rhythm for healthy, restful sleep.

While I don't think the entirety of the gun problem rests solely on the shoulders of our education system, using test scores to influence funding pushes focus towards cumulative academic ability instead of individual well being. Math, reading, and science, etc. are important, but so is introspection, and understanding psychology. Imagine kids in elementary school having lessons on emotions; how each one feels in the body, healthy ways to express them, what to do when a classmate might be overwhelmed. Then in middle school they start getting a dedicated, age appropriate phych class, mandatory every year until graduation. Every child gaining the ability over the years to look out for emotional red flags amongst their peers, and call attention to them so they can get the help they need. Recognizing how the brain functions, and understanding various reasons for why a person may be acting the way they are. All of this, coupled with actual gun regulations, would create a society that is, on the whole, emotionally stable. Emotionally stable people don't engage in mass shootings, whether guns are available or not. Psychologically aware people understand the need for safety regulations and perhaps banning certain weapons, as not every person is guaranteed to be emotionally stable. Instead, we force kids to memorize and regurgitate academic information to make test scores look good, and most of that information is lost after graduation anyway, because it largely does not pertain to the day to day lives most Americans hold. Bringing psychology, home ec, and in depth nutrition into schools would be far more beneficial than hammering the Pythagorean theorem into their subconscious.
