Check out this ancient embalming setup I found in the back of a basement at a rural funeral home. This would have been brought to the home of the deceased to perform the embalming on their deathbed with a little velvet curtain for privacy. The last photo looks like an amputation kit for some reason.

One thing I didn’t expect from the funeral profession is just how normalized the work would become. I’m only five years in and rooting around in a person’s neck flesh feels as mundane as making a cup of coffee.
And it takes effort to remember that many people or off put by dead bodies.
