That's interesting. I was in Ireland in the spring and we had several Americans we met who either apologized or were embarrassed to admit where they came from.

I've no ill will against ppl who make a great contribution and become super wealthy.
But rich ppl who are using their power to deny others of their basic needs, and rich ppl who flaunt the wealth they didn't earn themselves can fuck all the way off.

I wouldn’t even give a lot of them that much credit, to be honest. So many of these so called leaders got where they are by stealing ideas or screwing over their business partners

There's a misconception that it takes intelligence to climb to the top, when in reality ruthlessness and narcissism usually takes a person much further. As you say, "leaders of industry" should recognize their mistake, but if you accept that they're probably not that smart, suddenly it makes sense

I’m not sure where the blame lies, but I think our neighbours to the south are going to have to figure out some real structural changes. And let’s remember it can happen anywhere. Democracies everywhere need to be vigilant against this kind of rot
