These are some well-preserved student notebooks from the French countryside that date from the 1870s to 1900s. The exercises and lessons were handwritten by the teachers themselves. Imagine if a teacher has 10 students and all lived near the ecole (school).

These new purchases invited me to revisit a book chapter I wrote in 2003 on Beauty Pageants in the Philippines. Not only is pageantry popular in my country - there are intertwined issues and intersectionalities that are worth discussing.

Decided to clear my mind out and did a WALKSHOP with a couple of friends along the lovely Tay Bridge this early afternoon during the #SERAConf24 here in Dundee.

Reflections about life, family, society, activism, and education came from this experience understanding places.
