TRAIN DREAMS: A beautiful, aching, searching film. Until it was over I wasn’t sure what all it was trying to say, but how analogous to life that experience is. Potent performances. An exploration of the sacredness of human connection. Incredible on the big screen, but coming to Netflix. #TrainDreams

I mostly just talk abt movies on here but I’m stoked that after years of dreaming about it, we were able to pay to get a deck added to our home! Now I’m leveling up my skills to sand and stain it. Maybe I’ll post some future photos when it’s stained and the finishing touches happen. #Deck

Gore Verbinski’s GOOD LUCK HAVE FUN DON’T DIE was the #FantasticFest Secret Screening 4. It’s like TERMINATOR + MATRIX + EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE? It’s not as good as any of those movies but it’s a fun & wild ride that’s a little preachy too. The Internet Was A Mistake: The Movie.

Letterboxd just told me I have seen DEATHGASM. Which is great, since I’m now seated for DEATHGASM 2! #FantasticFest

Just had a blast finally seeing FREAKED for the first time on the big screen at #FantasticFest! Loving these retrospective screenings this year. There’s a true gross out, punk rock, anti-corporate, outcast loving spirit to this insanity. And like a NAKED GUN style sense of humor.

Just got to see 2008’s Thai martial arts opus CHOCOLATE on the big screen in 35mm at #FantasticFest. The film more than holds up in the Muay Thai & set pieces department. Jeeja Yanin’s kicks are SO CLEAN. A phenomenal revisit! Audience was with it all the way.

CRUEL JAWS: Severin is distro'ing this 1995 Italian schlocksterpiece that's like SAMURAI COP levels of WTF as it rips off JAWS with reckless abandon. Big thanks to AGFA for showing it to us on the big screen. #FantasticFest @severinfilms.bsky.social #AGFA

LUGER: A Spanish crime epic (from the team that made I’LL CRUSH Y’ALL) that feels like a Guy Ritchie street crime film that has a little deeper pathos at the core. A mysterious pistol ruins everyone’s day. I really enjoyed it. It’s talky, but the talk has style and reveals character! #FantasticFest

REFLECTION ON A DEAD DIAMOND: The first film I’ve seen by these filmmakers. Very frenetic and evocative. Like a James Bond / Diabolik existential trip. Filmmakers said their diamond visuals were inspired by JCVD’s glass-rolled gloves in KICKBOXER! #FantasticFest

ROAD TO VENDETTA: A Hong Kong -> Tokyo assassin action film that strongly evokes JOHN WICK’s universe and some BABY ASSASSINS sensibilities. It’s got style and potential and is ultimately solid if not remarkable. #FantasticFest

SILVER SCREAMERS: A nice core / life affirming doc about seniors making a horror short called THE RUG (we also saw the short). It’s pro creativity, highlights the power of filmmaking as a community act, & inspires listening to the under-heard. So like my catnip. #FantasticFest

IKATAN DARA: The first film from Iko Uwais’ new production company had its first ever public screening here at #FantasticFest. Great choreography, colorful villains, & gnarly kills float a thin story.
September 19, 2025 at 6:28 AM
#PRIMATE: A fun ride for an opening night #FantasticFest title. I had a nice little pit of tension in my gut for much of the time. It could’ve been smarter, it could’ve been executed a little more believably, but the kills are gnarly and mean. If Cujo in Hawaii sounds good to you, do it.

I feel like this official still from Criterion's 4K UHD release of HIGH AND LOW could be meme worthy. #ToshiroMifuneSideEye

THE LONG WALK: A good movie that’s angry about the right things and tells a unique and very intentional story. Took me a bit to find its pace, but it’s a pretty gutsy genre tale with some things to say. #TheLongWalk
