I have no idea whether or not she does own shares in OpenAI. But the balance of probability is surely that she does - so the government should publish her register of interests, as the public deserves to know.

Why will the government not publish Leung’s register of interests? I think the public deserves to know whether the Prime Minister’s closest adviser on AI owns shares in a company at the centre of such a huge debate about government regulation.

I put in a freedom of information request for her register of interests, which would reveal if she owns OpenAI shares. The government refused to share it, claiming it contains ‘personal information’.

For context, the PM’s previous AI Adviser’s register of interests *was* published.

Jade Leung worked for OpenAI from 2021 to 2023. You would expect her to have shares, worth a lot of money - which will get more valuable if OpenAI remains only lightly regulated.

Now she is the Prime Minister’s AI Adviser in No 10 - advising on AI regulation.

Also remember that this is just 1/6 of the major labels’ complaints against Udio & Suno. Sony & Warner are still suing Udio; all 3 are still suing Suno. There are also 2 outstanding class action lawsuits against each company brought by independent musicians.

(The devil will be in the detail - details on the settlement are scarce right now.)

- Billboard says opting-in musicians will be paid for both training & outputs

- This is the 2nd major gen AI copyright settlement (following Bartz v. Anthropic). Settlements give no case law, but you would expect them to bring significant $ to rights holders (Anthropic brought $1.5 billion)

- Udio immediately turned off downloads & apparently will transition to a closed ecosystem where you can remix artists’ songs with their permission & only share them on platform. This gives control to artists & limits AI that is trained on real musicians’ work competing with them elsewhere.

haha - very sorry to get your hopes up!

There's no info I've seen on whether the models will be trained from scratch only on work they have a license to use. That's the question that should be asked, I think.
