The Old Kingdom series is so completely brilliant. Fascinating and novel magic systems. Gorgeous characters, and a really satisfying story woven across the trilogy. One of my adolescent favourites! Lives on my living room shelf.

Ok, fair - it’s been a while since I’ve read the books! They’re clearly compressing a lot of stuff for (understandable) expediency. Looking forward to seeing how they have it all play out!

Interesting. I’m really enjoying her portrayal - completely confident in her ability to manipulate. Iirc she poses a pretty heavy threat to Elayne and Nynaeve in their early encounters…
Personally I’m missing Lanfear fawning over Lews Therin - she’s way too normal in the series 🤣.

Better get Cefazolin on formulary quick.

A 13 patient case series does not a convincing argument make. So. Many. Confounders.

Also, mechanistically this makes no sense as theories of “long covid” pathology relate to altered immune signalling and inflammatory responses, rather than ongoing viral replication.

Also, on a first listen, I’m not sure what exactly was remastered for the 20th anniversary of The Shins “Oh, Inverted World” - it sounds basically the same, which is no bad thing because they got it right first time. (2/2)

Man, the hours I put into X-wing and Tie fighter when I was a kid. I’ve got the collectors edition stashed somewhere and managed to get it running on an old laptop a few years ago. So good.

This I was aware of! I know she worked a lot with Sanderson to help complete the series.

Absolutely!

I’m sort of morbidly curious about what was cut… but considering that in my current life it’s taken me four years to make it almost to the end of Pullman’s Secret Commonwealth (which is great) I’ll have to leave it to my imagination. 🤣

Too many cooks? Couldn’t decide which bit of filler to remove so took none… 😬

Yeah. I mean I guess he was trying to build a sense of unease about who was going to betray who? But honestly the man needed a better editor. 🤣

That’s true - they’re managing to distill the essence of the story to good effect while having some of the previously mysterious/one-note characters be more nuanced from the outset. Here’s hoping they cut out three-four books worth of politicking in the rebel tower. 🤣

I’ve really enjoyed how they’ve translated a lot of the world elements into the series. They’re doing a fair job of addressing some of the issues inherent in the way Jordan built his world, but I am sad they skipped how Matt got his bonus memories - particularly as it’s so tied to Moiraine’s story.
