🚀 Today kicks off World AMR Awareness Week 2025!

Drug-resistant infections are one of the biggest threats to global health, but action is growing worldwide.

All week we’ll share how GARDP is working with partners to develop & deliver the antibiotics we urgently need.

Seeing #elbow open with Starlings tonight instantly took me back to when I first saw them at Latitude in ‘08 - they had to blow their own trumpets back then. That and Magnificent (She Says) - probably my most played song around my daughter’s birth - definitely drew tears. Cheers! Yours, Bertie.

Finished the Wheel of Time season 3. The potential ramifications on how they’ve managed the translation of story from the books to the screen are massive. Fabulous and confident show running here and a really impressively maturing cast. Looking forward to the next one already!

Ended up listening to The Offspring this week (for reasons) and have ended up down a hole of music from my adolescence. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. By Incubus is truly a banger of an album. (1/2)

In attempting to actually work out social media I now realise my last three posts have started with the “Well,…”

I have a ways to go. 🤣

Well, it turns out I have feelings about Laboratory Information Management Systems. Having had one for 6 years, first impressions of a second leave me pining for the old UX. I’m sure I’ll find some positives… just need to root around for them… just keep rooting…

Well, it’s the end of a year which has had BIG STUFF both personal and global, for good or ill. But let’s focus on positives: I finally completed my time as a resident (née “junior”) doctor, I found some amazing people to play PF2e with, and my kid started school. What will 2025 hold? Good luck all!

Well, having got it shortly after publication in Oct ‘19, I’ve finally finished “The Secret Commonwealth”. Looking forward to the final part of of The Book of Dust whenever it arrives… Now try and progress “Fall; or, Dodge in Hell” to see if I’ve broken my reading block… it’s been a while.

Name a TV show you’re positive no one remembers but you.

Is anybody else anxious about how the shift of users from the other place will affect this space?

I’ve personally enjoyed having an oasis of calm while intermittently opening the door to the abyss to remind myself that bad stuff exists and sometimes needs some thought…

Not that I post much. Ever.

Bluesky now has over 10 million users, and I was #2,298,521!

I mean, it’s a big number…

To be fair I’ve posted all of thrice and I still feel very privileged to have been able to access this relatively peaceful oasis of social media before it quadrupled in size. The ‘sky is the limit!

Our trip to see Dune pt. 2 was scuppered by kids with chicken pox on Friday, but very belatedly managed to see Oppenheimer last night. An excellent film, but hard to say the persistent feeling of anxiety, dread, sadness, and fear for the world we live in was “enjoyable”.

One of those moments where you’ve got the kids out of the house, sorted your life admin, and finally have a moment of peace to sit and think, “Jeez, I don’t think I’ve ever been that comfortable.”

Hilda might be my perfect tv show. I’d missed that it was getting a third and final season. Soup for the soul on a cold December night.
