The EDIG (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Geoscience) project is a volunteer-led, online initiative aiming to make geoscience more inclusive, accessible, and equitable for everyone.

Check out our new website at: https://ediingeo.org/
We have been working on a report and plan to have a full release in 2026! In the meantime, you can watch a summary talk by a past EDIG member on our website here: ediingeo.org/survey/

Survey – EDIG

The results were incredible and showed not only the intersectionality and complexity of experiences, but also the prevalence of unconscious bias across geoscience. The survey also highlighted the challenges of EDI-related initiatives when they are ineffective or when people are unaware of them.

The EDIG Survey was originally launched to help us organise the 2020 Conference. But it led to the collection of an overwhelming amount of experiences, viewpoints, and impacts. Overall, we heard from 708 people from 58 countries, across a wide range of sectors within geoscience.

As the DEI co-chair, I hope you will apply to join the DEI committee. We are a friendly active bunch working on making Geochemistry more accessible and inclusive. This includes during @goldschmidt-confer.bsky.social, online (www.eagblog.org/categories/d...), and with respect to the awards.

💻 🌍 In 2022, we decided to run another event. This event was spread out over multiple time zones and was inspired by the stories we heard and the lessons we learned over the previous 2 years. It focused on 3 sessions;
➡️ Data collection in EDI,
➡️ Awareness of EDI Challenges, and
➡️ Action.

➡️ Where have we come from?
➡️ Where are we now?
➡️ Where are we going?

💻 🌍 In 2020, we hosted our first event: a fully virtual, and free 2-day conference! This was at a time when most people had to work at home, online. There were a lot of online discussions on EDI and challenges in the geoscience community.

But we felt it was an important task, as over the years of organising conferences, talking with other groups, and meeting new people, we have gathered resources and information we wanted a place to share them.

🌐 As you can imagine, it was not without challenges, since most of us are scientists with close to no experience in creating a website.
