- the structure into which they are placed (architecture)
- the base arithmetic (matmul, norm, batch norm, and so on)

as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

it speaks to the level of aggressive, bad-faith and poor quality thinking on here that despite (a) never claiming and (b) outright clarifying several times in the thread, many popular posters on here are intentionally lying and saying that i think that LLMs are “sentient”.
i’m completely serious when i say that much of the dismissive ai discourse on here fires the bigotry neuron
