“It’s not a religion, it’s a relationship.” If you’ve spent any time around evangelical Christians, you’ve heard this phrase. But here’s the uncomfortable truth that believers don’t want to examine: there’s nothing unique about this at all. I break it down in my latest essay. (free gift link)

We assume when people talk about morality, we’re all talking about the same thing. But, we’re not. There are actually two fundamentally different ways to understand what morality is for. Once you grasp this, a lot of evangelical behavior that seems baffling starts to make perfect sense. (gift link):

Brilliant satire!
To my dearest family,

Congratulations! You did it again. You went out there, voted your conscience, and really showed those liberals who’s boss. I have to say, it’s truly impressive how you can solve the high cost of living with a single ballot, just by doubling down on your love for God and guns.
Congratulations on Your Vote for Hate and Higher Prices

This explains why you can't reason with Evangelicals.
There are two ways to view morality: as an internal compass or an external weapon. Until we recognize which one someone’s using, we’ll keep talking past each other—thinking we’re debating values when we’re actually speaking different languages. I break it down in my latest essay on Medium. Free link

"As more experts abandon evangelical Christianity, evangelicals lose access to expertise. As they lose access to expertise, they become more suspicious of experts in general. And as they become more suspicious of experts, they drive away the few remaining intelligent voices within their…movement."

Great article on rethinking Paul's role in the creation of Christianity!
What if everything we think we know about Christianity's origins is wrong? Paul never intended to found a "Jesus religion." He was actually joining a massive Jewish apocalyptic movement expecting God's imminent takeover of the world. I break it down in my latest essay. Now available on Medium! Gift:
